Birdwatching Equipment Guide

When heading out to do a shorebird count, firstly remember to consider your own health and safety. Advice can be found here.

Now that you have that sorted, you will need to consider how you are going to see, identify and count the various species at your site.  For this you will need as a minimum, a set of binoculars. To make your job easier you may want to consider a spotting scope and a tripod to put it on. On occassions, you might also find it helpful to take photos of the waders to confirm identifications and even perform counts.  When large numbers of waders are present, having your clicker in your pocket might save you a long walk back to the car where you left it.
