Seaforth

The Seaforth Shorebird Area is located north of Mackay in north Queensland and extends along the coastline from the west side of Cape Hillsborough to the east side of Port Newry, encompassing Ball Bay, Halliday Bay, Seaforth Beach, and Finlaysons Point. The shoreline features a diverse mix of sandy beaches, extensive intertidal mudflats, and rocky headlands, particularly around Halliday Bay, with mangrove forests backing much of the coast. The area forms a complex of marine and estuarine wetlands influenced by a tidal range of up to 6 metres. Shallow inshore waters are predominantly saline but become brackish during the wet season due to freshwater input from local catchments. The varied coastal habitats and extensive intertidal flats provide important foraging and roosting habitat for migratory shorebirds.

The region is nationally important for Eurasian Whimbrel, Siberian Sand-Plover and Far Eastern Curlew.
