Geoff Skinner Reserve
Geoff Skinner Wetlands Reserve, Wellington Point
QWSG code: EAGS, WEGS
Roost habitat classification: TECM (notes)

Geoff Skinner reserve is one of the largest remaining high tide shorebird sites in the Redlands. Much of the reserve is an extensive intertidal mudflat which is dry and crunchy to walk on for much of the time but becomes wet and sloppy during big rain events and at the higher astronomical tides. Mangroves and saltmarsh also feature. Hilliard’s Creek forms the south-eastern border.
To access the claypan, park at the end of Fernbourne Road and either climb over the locked gate or walk down Bligh St (now closed to trafficc) until you see an entry point to the reserve. Follow the path through the forest until you can see the mudflats.
A good place to see: Far Eastern Curlew, Double-banded Plover (Winter), Bar-tailed Godwit, Pied Stilt, Red-capped Plover, Red-necked Stint, Common Greenshank, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone.
Interesting shorebird sightings: Long-toed Stint (2022), Semipalmated Plover (2023), Asian Dowitcher (2024), Grey Plover (2022), Pectoral Sandpiper (2021) and Oriental Plover (2019).
